Award-winning Artist Michael Yoist
Named Featured Artist for September and October
Michael Yoist’s award-winning paintings are in collections throughout the United States, including the permanent White House collection in Washington D.C.
A self-taught painter, Yoist works both in his studio and en plien air (on location) to create his remarkable work. His art has been described as American Impressionist, and reflects his love of nature. Many of his oils are done exclusively with a painting knife he bought in Paris, France while on a trip given to him as a birthday gift by his children.
“I love to experience the color, form, and texture of objects and attempt to record and share some of my feelings and impressions.”
Working in oils and pastels, Michael has won numerous awards across the country. In a recent competition sponsored by the Contemporary Art Guild in Central LA, two of his paintings were named as 1st place winner, because they were both so excellent.
In 2007 Yoist was nominated to create a special Christmas ornament depicting Cane River/Creole Culture by the National Parks Service. His beautiful creation was selected to hold a place of honor on the White House Christmas Tree. Mike and his wife Betty were invited to the White House during the holiday season to meet the President and First Lady.
Michael Yoist’s art will be on display during the months of September and October in the Natchitoches Art Gallery at 584 Front Street, Suite 102 in downtown Natchitoches. A special reception to honor Mike is planned for Saturday, October 11th at the Gallery, from 5 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this special event to enjoy light refreshments and beautiful art!
