Suzanne (Suzie) Parker is a native of San Diego, California where she lived all her life until she and her husband, Kelsie (a native of Louisiana) relocated to Natchitoches in 2007. In January, 2008 she was juried into the Natchitoches Art Guild.
A graphic designer and art director since the early 70s; Suzanne has always dabbled in her love of fine art. Since retiring from the commercial field she has pursued her desire to paint and to create fiber art. Her fiber arts include colorful quilted, appliquéd and embellished wall hangings. Her paintings include acrylics and colored pencil compositions, water media and mixed media; currently she is creating a series of abstracts with people as the subject matter; some interesting pets and a series of fiber/paint quilt collages.
Her style is definitely unique, and the outcome is delightful. Suzie’s unique creativity earned two awards at the Natchitoches Art Guild’s 16th Annual Juried Competition and Exhibition in August 2009. Her 3-D creation “Grandma’s Playhouse” won second place in the 3-dimensional art category, and her 2-D mixed media “Alien Abduction” won the prestigious Annie Laurie Hand Harris Memorial Award for Innovation and Creativity.
Suzanne also has enjoyed gardening since her childhood and is currently learning to cultivate in the southern states. She also enjoys cooking and reading.
The Natchitoches Art Guild will honor Suzanne Parker as Guild Featured Artist with a reception and open house on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gallery on Front Street in downtown Natchitoches. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this open house to enjoy beautiful art, delicious refreshments, interesting conversation and to CELEBRATE ART!
